Breaking the Ice – How to start the conversation

There are plenty of things most of us would rather talk about than death and dying. But over 75% of us will reach a point in our lives when we are unable to make and/or communicate decisions about our preferences for care. If we hope to live the last period of our lives in a way that respects our personal values, we must make our values known through advance planning. Conversations are a vital part of that process.

This workshop examines the reasons people avoid talking about end-of-life care and explores a variety of ways to broach this often difficult subject. Whether we are young or old, sick or well, we give an immeasurable gift when we are willing to talk with our loved ones and health care providers about our personal values and our choices for end-of-life care.
